Q How does cannabis help people to relax?

A Cannabis lowers blood pressure, dilates the arteries and reduces body temperature by an average of 0.5 degrees, thereby relieving stress. Evening cannabis smokers report more restful sleep, says Jack Herer, the author of the cannabis encyclopaedia The Emperor Wears No Clothes. He claims that using cannabis allows most people a more complete rest with the highest amount of "alpha time" possible in sleep and it is much safer than many "legal" prescription drugs. Unlike Valium, cannabis does not act to make alcohol more potent. It has been estimated that, if it were legally available, up to 50 per cent of Britain's 300,000 regular users of Valium, Librium, Thorazine, Stelazine and most sleeping drugs could switch to cannabis.

'The Emperor Wears No Clothes' is published by The Green Planet Company,PO Box 35, Wallsend, Newcastle upon Tyne, at pounds 15.
