The Disc Jockey Superannuated personalities like Jimmy Savile used to chatter inanely while a white-coated technician lowered the needle on the latest 45.

The DJ Superstars like Sven Vath or Paul Oakenfold flit by helicopter from rave to rave (sometimes covering several spots in the same night), collecting fees of a grand a show or more.

The Producer New-breed DJs like Roni Size, Leftfield or the Chemical Brothers have almost dispensed with records altogether, piecing together their music on computer and delivering it live via computer hard-drives.
