Douglas Mawson was lauded for this extraordinary feat of survival after he became the first Australian to lead an expedition to the frozen continent of Antarctica in 1911.

But a new book suggests the celebrated explorer engaged in cannibalism, deliberately starving one of the expedition members– and eating his flesh. Watch footage of Mawson in the video below:
