Rumors swirl about The Who playing the Super Bowl

According to Sports Illustrated magazine's website, English rock band The Who will perform the halftime show at the Super Bowl XLIV, scheduled in Miami, Florida on February 7, a coveted spot during the American football match -- the most watched television event of the year.

If Pete Townshend and Roger Daltrey, the remaining members of The Who, take the stage for the National Football League's championship game, they will follow in the footsteps of classic acts such as The Rolling Stones, Prince, Bruce Springsteen, Paul McCartney, Prince, U2, Aerosmith, and Justin Timberlake with Janet Jackson.

The NFL have not officially announced the appearance and The Who's management has not confirmed it yet.

Currently Daltrey's "Use It or Lose It" solo tour in North America continues through November 30. Townshend is working on a new musical called Floss. The two are also reportedly planning a follow-up album to 2006's Endless Wire.
