In East Rutherford, Boyd Devereaux had a goal and an assist in a three-goal first period that led the Edmonton Oilers to only their second road win in 16 games, a 3-1 decision over the New Jersey Devils on Saturday.

Ethan Moreau and Josef Beranek also scored in the 7:39 span against Martin Brodeur, and goalie Bill Ranford made them stand, stopping 29 shots in ending the Oilers' six-game winless streak (0-5-1).

Krzysztof Oliwa scored on a second-period deflection for New Jersey, which has lost two of its last three at home after opening the season 10-1-2 at the Continental Airlines Arena.

Islanders 1, Senators 1

In Kanata, Ontario, Magnus Arvedson scored with 5:19 remaining to lift Ottawa to a tie with New York.

The tie snapped a five-game losing streak for New York, but left the Islanders winless in their last 15 against Ottawa (0-11-4), dating to Jan. 6, 1996.

Arvedson tied it when he redirected Radek Bonk's point shot past Islanders rookie goalie Roberto Luongo.

Mariusz Czerkawski scored for the Islanders.

Red Wings 5, Bruins 4

In Boston, Vyacheslav Kozlov scored two goals, and Steve Yzerman scored for the fifth consecutive game for Detroit.

With the score tied 3-3, Steve Duchesne scored the go-ahead goal at 9:38 of the third period, when his slap shot beat Boston goalie Byron Dafoe.

Yzerman scored his 14th of the season at 16:23 of the third on a power play to make it 5-3. Since 1995, the Red Wings are 88-17-10 when Yzerman scores at least once.

The Bruins are 0-4-2 in their last six, and have not won at home since a victory over the New York Rangers on Nov. 21.

Kings 4, Canadiens 2

In Montreal, Brad Chartrand scored twice as Los Angeles held off Montreal's third-period rally.

The Kings, 4-1-2-1 in their last eight, took a 3-0 lead and chased Montreal goalie Jeff Hackett before the midway point of the second with goals by Brian Smolinski, Garry Galley and Chartrand.

Jim Cummins and Sergei Zholtok scored 76 seconds apart early in the third to get Montreal within one. But Los Angeles goalie Jamie Storr was strong the rest of the way.

Penguins 4, Coyotes 2

In Pittsburgh, Kip Miller ended a 24-game goal drought with the go-ahead score in Pittsburgh's victory over Pheonix.

Jaromir Jagr had two goals and an assist to raise his NHL-leading point total to 46 as the Penguins won their second under new coach Herb Brooks.

With the score tied 2-2, Aleksey Morozov sent the puck to the net where it hit a skate and bounced to Miller. Miller fired a quick, low shot past Robert Esche's stick at 12:52. He had not scored since he had two goals in the Oct. 1 season opener at Dallas.

Maple Leafs 6, Flyers 4

In Toronto, Garry Valk scored two goals and the Leafs moved into first place in the Eastern Conference with a victory over Philadelphia.

The game featured a 12-player brawl in the second period that led to three game misconducts and 96 minutes in penalties. The fights overshadowed a tribute to Flyers coach Roger Neilson, who was coaching his first game since announcing he has bone cancer.

Valk's two goals sandwiched another by Sergei Berezin in a 1:43 span early in the second to break a 2-2 tie.

Panthers 4, Predators 2

In Nashville, Tennessee, Mark Parrish scored the eventual winning goal 2:33 into the third period, and Oleg Kvasha added two assists for Florida.

Parrish's wrist shot from the right side sailed over Tomas Vokoun's glove to give the Panthers a 3-1 lead.

Nashville's Patric Kjellberg cut the lead to 3-2 at 7:47 on the power play, barreling into the slot and pushing in a pass from David Legwand by Trevor Kidd.

Pavel Bure added an empty-net goal at 19:51 for the Southeast Division-leading Panthers, who have won three of their last four.

Blues 4, Stars 2

In St Louis, Jamal Mayers and Craig Conroy scored 30 seconds apart in the third period to give the Blues a victory.

Mayers' second goal of the season tied the game 2-2 at 3:37 of the third period. Just 30 seconds later, Conroy, who assisted on Mayers' goal, took a pass from Mayers and beat Dallas goalie Ed Belfour to give St. Louis its first lead of the game.

Scott Young also scored in the third period for St. Louis to extend his scoring streak to four. Terry Yake had three assists for the Blues, who have won eight of their last nine at Kiel Center.
