Hispanic Heritage Month celebrated musically at the White House

In honor of Hispanic Heritage Month, September 15-October 15, President Barack Obama and his wife have arranged a special Latin music evening at the White House on October 13, hosted by comedian George Lopez and actor Jimmy Smits.

The all-star headlining performers for "In Performance at the White House: Fiesta Latina" include pop stars Gloria Estefan and Marc Anthony, guitarist and singer Jose Feliciano, timbale player Sheila E., and legendary Chicano rock band Los Lobos.

Covering the full spectrum of Latin musical talent and appealing to the younger crowd is Aventura, New York's Dominican bachata boy band, reggaeton pioneer Tito "El Bambino," and Mexican pop singer and telenovela actress Thalia.

The show will be taped live by a Washington DC television station and air on the American PBS Network on October 15. It will also broadcast on Spanish language network Telemundo.

Part of the ongoing "In Performance at the White House" series of performances, Stevie Wonder performed recently at the request of President Obama.

Hispanic Heritage Month has enjoyed events in cities around the country, special educational programs in schools, and community festivals celebrating the diversity of Hispanic arts and culture in the US.
