Whether you’re after a smart substitute for your laptop or want a portable device for when you’re on the move, tablets handily bridge that gap between your smartphone and computer.

Having come a long way since Apple launched its iPad in 2010, tablets can now do everything, allowing you to draw, play games, send emails, watch videos and stream music.

The devices offer slim, sleek and lightweight designs as well as vivid screen quality – making them productive for work and perfect for use as an entertainment device.

Since Apple’s iPad, the market has become saturated with rival models from companies including Samsung, Microsoft and Amazon.

Ranging in affordability, the devices can cost anywhere between Amazon’s under-£100 Fire tablets, to Microsoft’s mid-range Surface models and Apple and Samsung’s top-end products.

And if you’re after a tablet upgrade or want to invest in your first one, you’re in luck – Amazon has slashed £100 off the Samsung Galaxy tab S7+, a device that launched last summer.

Usually retailing at £799, you can snap up the top-rated Android device for £699 right now. Here, we’ve detailed everything you need to know about the model, which earned a spot in our round-up of the best tablets

You’ll want to immerse yourself fully in both work and entertainment with the Samsung Galaxy tab’s 12.4in screen size and vivid OLED display. Start by unlocking the tablet by pressing your fingerprint into the sensor buried in the display.

Whether streaming music in one of the many apps available or watching a movie, you can enjoy an enhanced audio experience owing to the Dolby atmos sound and quad speakers. A nice touch, our tester said, is the tablet’s cover that “also has a kickstand so you can position it perfectly for watching a movie”.

Powered by an Android operating system, there’s a wide range of applications ready to be accessed, and “this tablet makes them look and perform their best”, said our tester. The device can be powered with both wifi and 4G, as well as 5G where it’s available.

A great bonus is the S pen that comes with the device, as it allows you to create graphic art pieces or annotate documents for work. Our tester praised the “optional rear cover which protects the metal back of the tablet and holds the S pen safely”.

The sleek “mystic black” colourway is stylish and understated, while the slim design is perfect for your commute, or for taking away on holiday. “The design is light and thin,” our tester said, “the thinnest tablet of any brand at 5.7mm… a little thinner than the iPad pro.”

They added that “the tablet bears a passing resemblance to the iPad pro or iPad air, with its flat edges, rounded corners and a stylus, which attaches to the tablet magnetically”, but unlike the Apple pencil, “the Samsung S pen is bundled with the tablet”.

If you need further convincing, our tester said the Samsung tablet “looks glorious, with a pin-sharp OLED display that is easily the best screen on any Android tablet” while also praising its “fast processor which is highly responsive”.
