Home Computer: Which program?
WORD processors were probably the first programs of interest to personal computer users and the names that are most well known. They all began as programs that turned computers into glorified typewriters, but now they do much more than just process words. They can add rules, graphics of all kinds - even distort words into graphics - and allow pages or whole documents to be designed and laid out.
All the leading programs have made similar transitions. The leading names of 10 or so years ago still dominate the market. Word perfect, Word and Word for Windows are among the top-sellers and Amstrad-PCW users will be familiar with long-lasting Locoscript. But newer programs are making an impact, and one of the the leading challengers, Ami Pro will be reviewed next week.
