Rita Ora’s appearance as a coach on The Voice received positive reactions last night.

Confident if not groundbreaking when it came to critiques of those auditioning, she appeared bothered when she failed to win singers that she turned her chair for.

"I hope you choke on your chicken," she joked with Ricky Wilson after losing out on one act who'd asked the coaches about their poultry preferences.

Tom Jones had been positive about the new judge, and told her at the show’s premiere: "There were a few names suggested [as a replacement for Kylie Minogue] and when they suggested Rita I said I hope so… you’re so fresh, a natural."

For Ora herself, taking Kylie Minogue’s place in the spinning chair on The Voice was a chance to "show people what I’m really like".

Her anxiety showed in occasional moments of hesitancy on screen as she failed to claim a contestant for the first part of the opening programme. Finally she succeeded in landing 17-year-old Ryan Green from Essex.
