The Gifted trailer: First clip from Bryan Singer directed X-Men show

Centring on two teenage mutants being hunted by the government

With Legion, Fox created an excellent non-animated X-Men TV series, proving that, despite not being tied to the film series, people would watch.

Working with Marvel once more, the studio is releasing The Gifted, an X-Men series directed by Bryan Singer, who previously helmed X-Men, X2, Days of Future Past, and Apocalypse.

The first trailer — which has just debuted — revolves around Natalie Alyn Lind and Percy Hynes White’s Lauren and Andy Strucker, two teenagers who discover they are mutants.

However, following the public revelation they have powers, the duo must go on the run with their parents (played by Stephen Moyer and Amy Acker) as the Sentinel Services hunt them.

It’s currently unclear how exactly the show fits into the X-Men timeline and whether the films will be directly referenced; according to showrunner Matt Nix, the show fits the timeline but won’t necessarily relate the same way Agents of SHIELD does to the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

One relationship they do share is the inclusion of mutant-hunting Sentinels, which were a key plot-point during Days of Future Past, Peter Dinklage having played the Sentinels’ creator Bolivar Trask.

Meanwhile, Marvel’s Agents of SHIELD has been renewed for a fifth season despite The Inhumans and falling ratings. The Gifted has yet to receive a premiere date.
