The co-creator of Rick and Morty has made no secret of his love for McDonald's limited edition Szechuan sauce and it's paid off - the fast food chain is sending him his very own jug.

For those who don't know, Justin Roiland included several references of the sauce that was only available in 1998 as part of a tie-in with Disney film Mulan in the season three premiere of the cult animated comedy leading to several online petitions to bring it back - something McDonald's responded to earlier this year.

Character Rick reveals during 'The Rickshank Redemption' that his one time-travelling mission over the next nine seasons is to bring back the discontinued sauce - something that Roiland confirmed is happening at this year's Comic-Con.

Roiland revealed he plans to film himself and co-creator Dan Harmon trying the sauce when McDonald's send them the sample next week.

He refused to elaborate on whether the Szechuan sauce will be referenced in future episodes or if, indeed, Rick is successful in his venture.

Rick and Morty season three is due to continue on 30 July.
