Marvel and Fox working together on two X-Men TV series: Hellfire and Legion

The two studios have put aside their differences to work on the new shows

There’s a lot of friction between Marvel Studios and Fox: One owns the Avengers while the other has X-men and Fantastic Four.

Luckily, for superhero fans, they have put aside their differences and are working on a new project together: two new X-Men TV shows.

Before we go any further, you may be wondering why Fox had to get Marvel involved. According to reports, Fox have never owned the TV rights to the X-Men, they were always retained by Marvel.

Jeph Loeb, head of television at Marvel, has teamed up with X-Men producers Bryan Singer and Simon Kinberg to create a live-action pilot for Legion, a show based on David Charles Haller - Professor X’s son in the comics.

The show will debut on US station FX, the synopsis reading: "Since he was a teenager, David has struggled with mental illness. Diagnosed as schizophrenic, David has been in and out of psychiatric hospitals for years.

"But after a strange encounter with a fellow patient, he's confronted with the possibility that the voices he hears and the visions he sees might be real.”

Creator of the TV adaption of Fargo Noah Hawley is also on board with the show, with FX president Nick Grad saying: "Legion is just the sort of ambitious story that Noah excels at.

“His adaption of Fargo for television was one of the most acclaimed television events in recent memory. It's also an honour to partner with Marvel on Legion and to enlist such an accomplished team of executive producers to create this pilot."

The other project currently under development is Hellfire, which will focus on a group of X-Men villains called The Hellfire Club, who just so happened to appear in X-Men: First Class.

Star Trek alumni Manny Coto and Patrick McKay, along with 24’s Evan Katz and JD Payne will work on the series, which will be set in the 60s.

Fox president David Madden said go the show: "We are thrilled to partner with Marvel to bring this world to television and build upon the Fox Logovibrant mythology that has captivated fans for years.

"These powerful and dynamic characters are complicated and larger-than-life, the pace and visual imagination are unrelenting, and the story takes place during one of the most explosive eras in recent history.”

The X-Men are returning to the big screen next year when Apocalypse is released May 2016.
