Young Avengers: Kevin Feige responds as MCU continues to introduce a new generation of superheroes

A number of young characters with superpowers have been introduced in the past few years

Kevin Feige has responded to fan speculation that Marvel could be setting the stage for a Young Avengers project: a film or TV show focusing on the teenage heroes of the MCU.

Speaking to EW to celebrate the release of The Falcon and the Winter Soldier, Feige agreed that Phase 4 of the MCU was introducing viewers to “all sorts of new types of characters, with the potential being endless”.

“As a comic fan, anything in the comics is always our inspiration and our guide point. How those things come together and in what shape, it's always subverting expectations, it's always half the fun as meeting them,” he said.

“Now, all of us at Marvel Studios feel like Nick Fury at the end of Iron Man 1, as new actors and new performers come in and we tell them they're part of a bigger universe. They just now have to do the work required to build their audience. I'm happy to say everybody that's here, certainly where I'm sitting now, is doing amazing work and [I] can't wait to show them the world.”

Phase 4 has already introduced some important members of the Young Avengers team, including the children of Wanda Maximoff (Elizabeth Olsen), Billy and Tommy, in the hit Disney Plus series WandaVision.

WandaVision’s finale saw Wanda shut down her sitcom world in Westview, New Jersey, after her duel with ancient sorceress Agatha Harkness (Kathryn Hahn), when she completes her transformation into the Scarlet Witch.

Wanda’s exit from Westview includes the emotional scenes where she says goodbye to Vision (Paul Bettany) and her children.

However, in a post-credits scene, Wanda hears Billy and Tommy’s voices calling her from some unknown place.

In the comics, Billy and Tommy go by the aliases Wiccan and Speed, and at one point, become real-world beings. The series offered a glimpse at Billy and Tommy’s powers: Tommy had super-speed and could also alter molecules around him and phase through solid objects. In episode six of WandaVision, it’s hinted that Billy can sense other people’s thoughts, and also uses telekinesis to stop Tommy from running in super-speed mode.

Another Young Avenger from the comics, Miss America, will be introduced by Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness as America Chavez: she is set to be played by Xochitl Gomez.

The Disney Plus series Hawkeye will also see Hailee Steinfeld arrive as Kate Bishop, a protégé of Clint Barton (Jeremy Renner).

Meanwhile, Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania, scheduled for release in 2022, will feature Kathryn Newton as Cassie Lang, the daughter of Scott Lang (Paul Rudd).
