The Handmaid's Tale season 4 trailer

Update: Hulu dropped the first three episodes sooner than expected.

Fans of The Handmaid’s Tale can rejoice: the dystopian series will be back on TV screens very soon.

Season four of the show will begin airing on 28 April on Hulu in the US.

Elisabeth Moss will reprise her role as June Osborne/Offred, one of many women serving as Handmaids in Gilead – a totalitarian state having replaced what we know as the United States.

The series is based on Margaret Atwood’s novel of the same name, published in 1985.

Here is everything you need to know ahead of The Handmaid’s Tale’s return to the screens:

When does season four begin?

Season four of The Handmaid’s Tale kicks off on 28 April in the US.

Hulu is expected to release the first three episodes of the new season on that date.

After that, the show will continue with weekly releases.

How can I watch it?

Hulu subscribers in the US can simply log on to the service and stream the show as soon as it becomes available.

Season four of The Handmaid’s Tale is expected to air on Channel 4 in the UK later this year.

What can I expect?

If you’ve watched season three, you might recall it ended with (spoiler alert) June successfully helping a group of children escape Gilead, by putting them on a plane to Canada.

The season ended with June getting wounded during the operation, and being taken away by a group of fellow Handmaids.

Hulu have released a synopsis teasing the fourth season, and it sounds like June will reprise her struggle against the powers that be in Gilead.

“In the upcoming fourth season of The Handmaid's Tale, June (Elisabeth Moss) strikes back against Gilead as a fierce rebel leader, but the risks she takes bring unexpected and dangerous new challenges,” the synopsis reads. “Her quest for justice and revenge threatens to consume her and destroy her most cherished relationships.”
