Bafta Craft Awards 2014 winners list: Doctor Who, Downton Abbey and Strictly win big

Stephen Mangan hosted the event celebrating behind-the-scenes TV talent

Sequins and sparkles are a recipe for success it seems, after Strictly Come Dancing won the Special Award at last night’s Bafta Craft Awards.

The annual ceremony, held in celebration of the best behind-the-scenes talent in British TV, awarded the BBC’s hit dance competition with its top accolade, with two Baftas going to Peaky Blinders.

The historical gangster drama’s Otto Bathurst left with the Director: Fiction prize, while George Steel was awarded Photography and Lighting: Fiction.

Other popular programmes to leave with awards included ITV crime drama Broadchurch for Original Music and Channel 4 documentary Educating Yorkshire for Editing: Factual.

Julian Fellowes’ Downton Abbey won for Costume Design while Doctor Who: The Day of the Doctor took home the trophy for Special, Visual and Graphic Effects.

British actor Stephen Mangan hosted the event at London’s The Brewery, with Emilia Fox, Arthur Darvill and Patsy Palmer among the stars to attend.
