Frozen fans will soon be able to sing along to “Let It Go” at the tops of their lungs at a new musical opening on Broadway in 2018, along with other Disney favourites Aladdin and The Lion King.
Disney confirmed on Tuesday that a stage adaptation of its 2013 animated hit is in the pipeline, with the first shows set to take place outside New York sometime next summer.
Based on Hans Christian Anderson’s fairytale The Snow Queen, Frozen follows Princess Anna’s quest to bring her beloved but estranged sister Elsa home to take her crown as Queen.
Frozen grossed nearly $1.3 billion worldwide to become the highest-grossing animated film in history, as well as winning Oscars for Best Original Song and Best Animated Feature.
Writer Jennifer Lee and composers Kristen Anderson-Lopez and Robert Lopez are returning to work on the musical together, while Tony Award-winning set and costume designers Bob Crowley and Natasha Katz have also signed on.
Alex Timbers is directing and Peter Darling, best known for Billy Elliot, will choreograph.
