THEATRE: CURTAIN CALLS

John Dempsey and Dana P Rowe's dark musical about American politics, The Fix, displayed more raw potential in its brief run at the Donmar than any other new musical for years. The taut theatrical dramatisation of the material was extraordinarily exciting, all of which bodes well for their next show, The Witches of Eastwick, to be produced by Cameron Mackintosh.

Back in 1963 he was stage manager on another underrated musical: 110 in the Shade, based on the play and film The Rainmaker. Now you and Mackintosh have the opportunity to rediscover this neglected work in the "Lost Musicals" season. Director Ian Marshall Fisher and Chicago MD Gareth Valentine have assembled an excellent cast, including Louise Gold and Michael Matus, for performances on the next four Sundays. But those of you too busy to go can take heart: That's Entertainment Records have added this delightful score to their collection.
