Wogan bowed out with an audience of 7.04m, the first time this year that the show has reached BBC 1's Top 30 programmes of the week. This was Wogan's highest audience since the New Year's Eve compilation programme (7.63m), itself the highest since last year's Madonna interview (7.72m).

The Wimbledon men's singles final was watched by 10.89m, 2.81m up on last year. The audience for the rain-affected women's final varied between 4.65m and 7.31m.
