Creative Outlaws: US Underground 1962-1970, TRIKONT

Just imagine - a period in which American rock musicians considered creative experimentation the hallmark of success. It may sound like wild fantasy, but there was a time when the music sounded that way, too, wild and fantastic. This compilation presents the growth of the hippy movement as an extension of beatnik counter-culture, with long-time freaks and weirdos such as The Fugs, Tiny Tim, Moondog and Nina Simone joined by sonic revolutionaries Captain Beefheart and Jimi Hendrix. Then there are neo-primitivist jug bands Pearls Before Swine, The Godz and Holy Modal Rounders, West Coast psychedelicists such as Country Joe & The Fish, Kaleidoscope and The West Coast Pop Art Experimental Band, and proto-heavy metal bands such as MC5, Blue Cheer and The Stooges. It is an extraordinary array of maverick talent sheltering under the "underground" banner. The one thing shared by all was a attitude to sound and society which ensured that, while they might not get rich, they would get noticed.
