Six albums down the line, Dirty Projectors – aka David Longstreth and his band – show no signs of settling into any one formula.

The songs on Swing Lo Magellan lurch unexpectedly from bubblegum handclaps to hillbilly plucking, from light-symphonic to 1970s soul. The unifying thread is the use of jazz chords and Steely Dan-like wordplay. It may not be for everyone, but it's evidence that there are still some restless minds out there.
