Reading and Leeds Festivals 2016 weather: Alternating sun and rain so pack your poncho

It's set to be warm but occasionally wet

The 2016 Reading and Leeds festivals get underway tomorrow, so many attendees will be wondering whether to pack shorts and vests or rain ponchos and wellies.

The short answer is: both.

The south of England has been enjoying a Barbados-beating heatwave this week, but it’s a little more patchy heading north.

Reading outlook (according to Met Office):

Thursday - Heavy showers and maybe even a little thunder, so prepare for some miserable tent pitching

Friday - Looking like the best day, with sun and clear skies forecast and a high of 23°

Saturday - Expected to cloud over, but temperatures will likely stay in the comfortable mid-20s. Possible light showers.

Sunday - Not much change - still overcast with pleasant temperatures. It will, however, be the festival’s windiest day

Leeds outlook:

Thursday - Leeds is inevitably more inclement than Reading (any excuse to use that term). Rain clouds will be hovering and the temperature will be somewhere between 14° and 18°

Friday - A much better, albeit slightly windy, day with clear skies

Saturday - Max temp sticking at 20°, but the sky clouding over

Sunday - Secure all valuables as heavy rain is expected. Might be worth sticking on some layers as it may drop to 14° during Biffy Clyro and Fall Out Boy’s co-headlining slot
