Paul McCartney recreates legendary Beatles Abbey Road album cover

Paul McCartney has recreated The Beatles' legendary Abbey Road album cover almost 49 years after it was released.

The musician surprised fans at the St John's Wood location in London as he walked across the iconic crossing with his suit jacket draped over his shoulder.

Abbey Road - which features tracks “Here Comes the Sun” and “Golden Slumbers” - was released in 1969. Its iconic cover was photographed by Ian MacMillan on 8 August.

The cover sparked an urban legend that McCartney was dead with American college students claiming that a barefoot replica had been used for the image.

McCartney recently joined James Corden for a heartfelt edition of Carpool Karaoke which saw the duo hit the streets of Liverpool where the singer revisited key locations that inspired several classic Beatles tracks.

Video footage of McCartney's surprise Abbey Road appearance racked up half a million views in a matter of hours.

The singer-songwriter recently announced huge stadium shows in the UK including dates in London and Liverpool.
