Kanye West turned up to audition at American Idol for no apparent reason

He performed 'Gold Digger' to judges Jennifer Lopez, Keith Urban​ and Harry Connick Jr.

Only hours after receiving advice from President Obama and performing at the Democratic National Committee fundraiser in San Francisco, Kanye West got on stage again but this time to audition for a place on American Idol.

The rapper stunned judges Jennifer Lopez, Keith Urban and Harry Connick Jr. by strolling in unannounced to perform an a cappella version of his hit “Gold Digger”, a song that famously features the line “My psychic told me she'll have an ass like Serena, Trina, Jennifer Lopez".

Kim Kardashian was there to share a photo on Instagram (above) while a snippet of the performance has also surfaced online.

Ryan Seacrest soon posted a celebratory photo of West, revealing he had received the Golden Ticket to get to the next stage in the competition.

Is this the start of Yeezy currying favour for his presidential campaign in 2020? American Idol might not be the right choice if so, as Fox will not be renewing it after the forthcoming 15th season. The show doesn’t actually air until January, when West’s audition will most likely be shown.
