T In The Park music festival to go ahead after Strathallan site approved by local councils

Concerns were raised about the festival site after video footage emerged allegedly showing ospreys attempting to nest in the area

Festival fans will breathe a sigh of relief after learning that T In The Park’s move to Strathallan Castle has been approved, meaning that the music event can go ahead until at least 2017.

After a 90 minute meeting, Perth and Kinross councillors unanimously backed the decision, subject to a number of conditions, the BBC reported.

Over the next three years, the Scottish festival's local impact will be assessed in order to inform a decision on its longer-term future.

The decision to approve the festival's relocation was met by a round of applause from supporters, while objectors said they were "disappointed".

Ospreys are a protected species in the UK and it is illegal to disturb them while they are nesting.

DF concerts boss Geoff Ellis, who had previously cited his concern that the three-day festival would have to be cancelled if the site was not approved, said he was looking forward to a "fantastic" first year at Strathallan.

This year's event will take place on the weekend of 10 to 12 July, with bands including Kasabian, The Libertines and Noel Gallagher's High Flying Birds taking headline slots.
