New music to listen to this week: AyOwA
Now Hear This
Intriguing Danish duo AyOwA are new to the electronic scene but it seems that they'll make their mark soon enough.
Their debut single 'Sommer' was picked up by radio over, well... summer, and we're now premiering their new track/video for 'Newcross', which was inspired by and filmed in south London.
Check it out below:
Q&A with AyOwA
What are you listening to at the moment
We’re very much into the Norwegian artist Jenny Hval at the moment - noisy but soft, and evocative vocals that takes us back to PJ Harvey.
Cocteau Twins is a band both of us keep coming back to, Flying Lotus has such an inspiring sound that we draw much inspiration from, and John Grant is always a favorite. Biggi Veira, of Icelandic band Gus Gus, who produced John Grant’s fantastic 2013 album Pale Green Ghosts, is currently mixing our forthcoming EP. We're so happy to be working with this eloquent artist.
What are your plans for 2017?
We’re releasing an EP in the beginning of the year, followed by concerts and festivals- and we always spend a lot of time in the studio- we feel it’s our second home!
We are very grateful that people outside of Denmark are starting to listen to our music, and we will extend touring to the UK in the new year.
What was the first gig you ever played and what’s been the best so far?
Our first gig was in a Copenhagen club called AMOC - great underground 70’s inspired and really fun club night. We we’re extremely underpractised and overly happy about it!
Our most important gig was probably at Spot Festival (Scandinavian equivalent of SxSW ) this year- many people whom we started working with afterwards came to see us there.
