Concerts, films and sound installations open the first week of Durham's seventh boundary-busting world gathering of brass, which brings together hip-hop brass, colliery bands, French Street theatre and more.

There's a New Orleans-style party-starter on the opening night from the New York Brass Band, while White River Brass and Northern Monkey Brass Band play elsewhere.

Plus, sound artist John Kefala Kerr's Book of Bells installation explores the story of the Lindisfarne Gospels at the Monk's Dormitory Library, while Louie+jesse's Stillaphone at the Music School turns this historic space into a vast instrument.
