Letter: Working mum
Working mum
Sir: I was horrified to read Jojo Moyes' first-person feature "My Baby Comes First" (9 August). I work full time in a responsible and well paid job. But I never have and never would put work before my daughter.
She is now 11 years old and we have always had a full-time nanny. But if she is sick and wants her mummy, then she comes first. For me there is only one winner in the battle of the child's need versus the need of the office. And I have never had a moment's aggravation from my bosses.
Thankfully I work for an understanding company and an understanding boss. But I find it hard to believe that they are a rarity. It is children first and foremost in my life, and I believe all working mothers should feel the same. And if your boss doesn't, then he doesn't deserve you.
