Letter: No `ideal' parents

Sir As one who grew up between the ages of 10 and 18 "in care", I know how damaging and insecure such status can be, and I can dismiss the claim by Cambridgeshire social services, that the two foster-children of Jeff and Jenny Bramley need some sort of specialised parenting skills.

All children need a loving, stable home environment, and acceptance. Everything else is immaterial. The published biographies of numerous "successful" people contain tales of eccentric or unusual upbringings. Social workers' attempts to arrange "ideal" homes for children are self-important haverings.

The "Bramley children" have been, de facto, adopted, and no longer need the intervention of social services.
