Weekend US film releases: Bruce Willis in cop comedy by director Kevin Smith

At movie theaters in the US the weekend of February 26, cult director Kevin Smith's latest is a cop picture starring Bruce Willis and Tracy Morgan, while a horror movie seeks to rock viewers literally and a romance features Twilight favorite Kristen Stewart.

Cop Out
In a new police detective comedy, Bruce Willis, last on the big screen in Surrogates and Live Free or Die Hard, partners with comic actor Tracy Morgan. Morgan, whose voice was featured in Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs and G-Force, currently stars in the award-winning US television hit 30 Rock, and will star in the upcoming remake of Death at a Funeral, with Chris Rock, Zoe Saldana and Danny Glover.

The romp follows a pair of cops as they track down a stolen baseball card, rescue a beauty and tangle with gangsters' drug money. Cop Out also features Jason Lee ( Alvin & the Chipmunks: The Squeakquel) who has worked with director/actor Kevin Smith in the Clerks movies, Mallrats and Chasing Amy. This is Smith's first film that he did not write.

The Crazies

This horror movie features Timothy Olyphant ( Live Free or Die Hard, Hitman) and Radha Mitchell ( Surrogates). It focuses on the inhabitants of a small town in Middle America suddenly plagued by insanity, violence and death after a plane crash releases a secret biological weapon into the water supply. In 13 US theaters, from Quebec to Texas, seats are equipped with D-box motion simulation to enhance the experience. It is directed by Brett Eisner, son of the former head of Walt Disney Studios, Michael Eisner.

The Yellow Handkerchief
This drama about troubled romance stars Kristen Stewart, though shot before the Twilight saga success. It also ifeatures William Hurt ( Syriana, The Incredible Hulk) and Maria Bello ( The Private Lives of Pippa Lee, Thank You for Smoking). It follows a road trip through Louisiana with three wandering strangers whose travels connect them with each other as they pursue personal inner journeys. Directed by Udayan Prasad this film is opening in select cities.

Formosa Betrayed
A political thriller with James Van Der Beek ( Dawson's Creek), John Heard ( Battlestar Galactica) Tzi Ma ( Rush Hour, 24), Kenneth Tsang, Adam Wang, Tonray Ho, and Will Tiao. Inspired by true events during the 1980s, the story follows an FBI investigation of a professor's murder, which reveals a network of international secrets, spies, scandals, and the complexities of government relations. Taiwanese-American actor Tiao, also the film's producer, will tour US universities with the director Adam Kane ( Heroes) and actors for panel discussions about the film and Taiwan's independence.
