The Shallows could be the shark film all horror fans have been waiting for since Jaws

Could we have a new Jaws on our hands?

Galeophobia - the fear of sharks - should count you out of seeing The Shallows this summer, a film following in the same footsteps of Deep Blue Sea and Open Water in attempting to put the toothy great whites on screen in the first out-and-out nailbiter of a horror since Jaws in 1975.

The survival film stars Blake Lively as a professional surfer who - 200 yards away from shore - gets attacked by the deadly sea creature. Stranded on a rock, she must decipher a way of returning to land without becoming its dinner.

It's the high-concept premise alone which marks this out as a must-see aided hugely by its taut trailer which you can watch above. The film, directed by Jaume Collet-Serra (Orphan), was shot on the Gold Coast of Australia.

In a summer filled with sequels and reboots, it's this shark horror which rears its fin a little higher than the rest.

The Shallows is released on 12 August.
