‘Sing’ film: Matthew McConaughey to play down on his luck koala in musical

Scarlett Johansson will co-star as a porcupine.

Universal has set Sing as the title for its upcoming animated musical, which will see Matthew McConaughey voice a ‘dapper koala’ in charge of a once-great theatre that has fallen on hard times.

‘Seeing the thing he loves most in his life coming to ruin, [his character] Buster connives to restore the theatre’s fortunes by producing the world’s greatest singing competition,’ according to Deadline.

Seth MacFarlane will co-star as a crooning, con artist mouse, while Reese Witherspoon will play the mother of a litter of 25 piglets and Scarlett Johansson a punk rock porcupine trying to ditch her arrogant boyfriend so she can focus on her solo career.

Lesser known actors Tori Kelly and Taron Egerton are also on board, as a shy elephant with stage fright and a reluctant mafioso gorilla respectively.

This will be McConaughey’s first on-screen koala, though he previously showed talent holding a philosophical conversation with a bull.

Sing will feature over 85 songs on its soundtrack, with the film being written and directed by Hitchhiker’s Guide To The Galaxy’s Garth Jennings
