Sacha Baron Cohen jokes he’ll hire Rudy Giuliani as lawyer if Borat 2 doesn’t win awards
Giuliani infamously appeared in comedy after being tricked into a fake press interview
Sacha Baron Cohen has joked that he will hire Rudy Giuliani to contest the results of the Golden Globes if Borat 2 and The Trial of the Chicago 7 don’t win.
The actor, who reprised his role as the fictitious bigoted Kazakh journalist in the second Borat film last year – as well as starring in Aaron Sorkin’s courtroom drama as activist Abbie Hoffman – responded to the nominations yesterday in a statement, saying he was “overwhelmed” by the “ridiculous” amount of nods.
His response referenced Donald Trump’s personal lawyer Giuliani, who unwittingly appeared in the film in a now-infamous interview with Borat 2 actor Maria Bakalova, who was posing as a journalist.
After Bakalova and Giuliani retreat to a hotel room, the lawyer is seen seemingly putting a hand down his trousers.
Giuliani has said he was never “inappropriate” during the interaction, and that he was “tucking in [his] shirt after taking off the recording equipment”.

Mocking the lawyer in his statement, Cohen said: “I’m so honoured, and in the event that we don’t win, I promise to hire Rudy Giuliani to contest the results.”
Borat 2 was nominated for three Golden Globes, in the best film, best actor and best actress categories.
The Trial of the Chicago 7, meanwhile, received 5 nods – including a best actor nomination for Cohen.
