No Time to Die: Hans Zimmer hired as last-minute composer for new James Bond film

Film's previous hire, US composer Dan Romer, reportedly quit due to 'creative differences'

Hans Zimmer has taken over as composer for the new James Bond film No Time To Die.

The last-minute switch comes less than three months before the film is due for release, Variety reports.

Zimmer, an 11-time Oscar nominee and one of Hollywood's most high-profile composers, replaces Dan Romer, who departs amid reports of creative differences with the film’s production company Eon Productions.

US composer Romer is best known for his work on Beasts of No Nation and the Netflix miniseries Maniac, both projects by Bond director Cary Fukunaga.

Zimmer has scored films including Gladiator, The Da Vinci Code, The Lion King, Inception, and the Pirates of the Caribbean series.

Romer’s departure marks the first time in the franchise’s half-century long history that a composer has quit during production.

The film is already in post-production in London and is due for release on 3 April, leaving little time for the score to be completed. There are speculations that Zimmer may collaborate with another composer on No Time To Die’s soundtrack due to the tight timeline.

Zimmer has also been working on the score for Wonder Woman: 1984; the adaptation of Frank Herbert's sci-fi novel Dune; and the long-awaited Top Gun sequel starring Tom Cruise.

The theme song for the new Bond movie has yet to be announced.

No Time to Die will be released in cinemas on 2 April.
