McDonald's the movie is on the way

Script said to be akin to The Social Network and There Will Be Blood

The Blind Side director John Lee Hancock is to direct a film about the rise of McDonald's.

I wasn't into this idea until I learnt that the script has been described as "akin to There Will Be Blood", presenting the intriguing prospect of a slow burn drama in which a man just stares a lot in the desert and mumbles about hamburgers.

The film will tell the true story of how Ray Kroc, a salesman from Illinois, met Mac and Dick McDonald, who were running a burger operation in California in the 1950s, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

Kroc was taken by the brothers' fast food system and managed to pull their company away from them, turning it into a billion dollar empire.

There's no word on the cast yet, but let's just go ahead and start a rumour that Benedict Cumberbatch will play Ronald McDonald and Andy Serkis will do motion capture as Grimace, that massive purple guy.

Hancock last directed Saving Mr Banks, which told the story of another successful entrepreneur – Walt Disney.
