Dame Judi Dench had no idea she was nominated for a Razzie award, but had the best response when she found out.

The 85-year-old actor, who received a Worst Supporting Actress nomination for her performance in Cats, was appearing on Radio 4’s Front Row when she was told the news.

“Oh, am I?” she said, adding: That would be good. As far as I know, that’s a first.”

Dench is correct – the nomination marks her first ever at the Razzies, which are set to take place at 4am GMT on 15 March.

The universally panned adaptation of Andrew Lloyd Webber musical Cats, directed by Tom Hooper, received a total of eight nominations.

Dench told the radio show she is yet to see the film and was unaware about the negative reviews it received.

“I haven’t seen it. I didn’t read anything about the response to it, nor have I seen it, and I’ve only seen a picture of myself,” she said.

The 40th edition of the Razzies, also known as the Golden Raspberry Awards, also nominated Sylvester Stallone’s Rambo: Last Blood, Tyler Perry’s A Madea Family Funeral and Serenity, which stars Matthew McConaughey and Anne Hathaway.
