Danny Boyle left 'in grief' after David Bowie rejects his biopic plans

To 'fill the space in my heart left by the abandoned Bowie script' the director put all his energy into Steve Jobs

Even with a CV including Trainspotting, Slumdog Millionaire and the London Olympics opening ceremony, Danny Boyle was unable to persuade David Bowie to get on board a film about the Thin White Duke.

The esteemed musician, who has reportedly retired from touring, left the director “in grief” after refusing Boyle the use of his music for the biopic.

Speaking to Radio Times, the filmmaker revealed he had been working on the project with Frank Cottrell Boyce - who also wrote the opening ceremony dialogue - for many years.

To “fill the space in my heart left by the abandoned Bowie script” Boyle decided to put all his energy into Steve Jobs, his latest film which has surprisingly tanked at the box office.

He went on to call the Aaron Sorkin-penned biopic about the Apple co-founder “the biggest challenge I’ll ever have in my life”.

Boyle also spoke about the upcoming sequel to Trainspotting: “hopefully it will come out on the 20th anniversary of Trainspotting [in 2016]” adding “it’s not called Porno!” after the Irvine Welsh novel it is be based on.

In other Bowie news, the singer recently announced a new album, titled Blackstar, which will be released on 8 January to coincide with the singer’s 69th birthday.
