Ben Affleck speaks out on sexual harassment in Hollywood: 'I'm looking at my own behaviour'

Ben Affleck has said the allegations of sexual harassment flooding out of Hollywood has led him to examine his own behaviour.

The actor told the Associated Press that he's, "looking at my own behaviour and addressing that and making sure I'm part of the solution", and that two things must happen, that "more women need to be pushed to power" and that sexual harassment has to also be "a men's issue", where men call out inappropriate behaviour they witness.

Affleck has been faced with several accusations of sexual harassment in the wake of the Weinstein allegations. The actor apologised for acting "inappropriately" after actress Hilarie Burton accused him of groping her breasts on MTV's TRL in 2003. "I acted inappropriately toward Ms. Burton and I sincerely apologize," Affleck wrote on Twitter.

Makeup artist Annamarie Tendler tweeted the allegation that Affleck groped her buttocks at a Golden Globes party in 2014. "He walked by me, cupped my butt and pressed his finger into my crack," she added, writing: "I guess he tried to play it like he was politely moving me out of the way and oops touched my butt instead of my lower back?"

After a video circulated showing Affleck cuddling Canadian journalist Anne-Marie Losique and joking about exposing her breasts, Losique came forward to state the footage had been taken out of context and that it was "for the camera". "He never touched me in any improper way. He was very respectful, I must say," she added.

The actor also faced criticism for his response to the Weinstein allegations. He wrote on Twitter: "I am saddened and angry that a man who I worked with used his position of power to intimidate, sexually harass and manipulate many women over decades."

"The additional allegations of assault that I read this morning made me sick. This is completely unacceptable, and I find myself asking what I can do to make sure this doesn't happen to others. We need to do better at protecting our sisters, friends, co-workers and daughters."

"We must support those who come forward, condemn this type of behaviour when we see it and help ensure there are more women in positions of power."

Rose McGowan, who is one of Weinstein's accusers, suggested that Affleck knew of Weinstein's behaviour, tweeting out a message of the words she claims Affleck spoke when he found out what had allegedly occurred. Those words were: "Goddamnit! I told him to stop doing that!"

McGowan continued: "You said that to my face. The press conf I was made to go to after assault [sic]. You lie."
