Bad Times at the El Royale - Official Trailer

Like a gritty take on Cluedo, Drew Goddard's Bad Times at the El Royale throws together seven colourful characters, each with a secret to hide.

There's the priest (Jeff Bridges), the singer (Cynthia Ervo), two criminals (Dakota Johnson and Cailee Spaeny), the vacuum cleaner salesman (Jon Hamm), the concierge (Lewis Pullman) and the cult leader (Chris Hemsworth). Propel them all to Lake Tahoe's rundown El Royale and watch the fireworks.

Goddard, best known for 2012's The Cabin in the Woods, though he also penned the screenplay for The Martian, both writes and directs here.

"Drew Goddard has assembled a lobby full of amazing characters in his storied El Royale Hotel and I cannot wait for audiences to meet these truly unique folks and learn who they are and uncover what makes each of them tick," producer Jeremy Latcham noted. "It will almost certainly not be what it is expected to be and that is a lot of the fun of the film. It is character-driven in the best sense."

The film also stars Nick Offerman, Russell Crowe, and Mark O'Brien in undisclosed roles.

Bad Times at the El Royale hits UK cinemas 10 October.
