A new trailer for 1911, a historical story set in China, was released September 19, starring martial arts superstar Jackie Chan in a departure from his recent comedies, kids' movies and signature acrobatic stunts.

Chan portrays Huang Xing, the first commander-in-chief of the army of the Republic of China, in an epic tribute to the 100th anniversary of the Xinhai Revolution and founding of the Republic of China.

The footage shows "an empire torn between power and corruption" and explosive war scenes, with Chan leading the rebellion as Sun Yat-sen overthrows the Qing Dynasty, rulers for 250 years.

This historical drama is co-directed by Jackie Chan and Li Zhang (cinematographer for Red Cliff) and costars Joan Chen ( The Last Emperor), Bingbing Li ( Snowflower and the Secret Fan) and Winston Chao, who also portrayed Sun Yat-sen in Road to Dawn and The Soong Sisters.

Being billed as Chan's 100th film, 1911 is scheduled for release in China this weekend, September 23, in Hong Kong and Singapore on September 29, followed by North America on October 12 and Japan on November 5, after it is screened at the Tokyo International Film Festival.
