Fringe Notes, 18/08/10
- It's a hard-fought category at this year's Fringe, but top prize for discomfort goes to HighTide's 'Lidless'. For the play about Guantanamo Bay audiences are shipped into a brightly lit white box and made to sit on tiny fold-out picnic stools around the edge. Great play, though.
- 'Gutted' at the Assembly Rooms is great fun, not least for a game of spot the comedian. Doc Brown, The Penny Dreadfuls, Sara Pascoe and Colin Hoult all star. And that strangely familiar seedy wedding singer? Jim Bob from the 1990s indie rockers Carter USM.
- Punters leaving Kevin Eldon's show on Sunday were surprised to be met by Stewart Lee handing out flyers for his wife Bridget Christie's show. Sweet.
Joke of the day
"I was on the website for the charity Shelter the other day. Did you know they've got a home page? That's a bit insensitive, isn't it?" - Chris McCausland
