John Burton-Race, the two Michelin-starred chef who cooks at L'Ortolan (0118 988 3783) in Shinfield, Berkshire, is about to try his talents on a London audience for the first time. Burton-Race is acting as consultant and executive chef for Shoeless Joe's, a mega-sized eaterie set to open at Temple Place within weeks. The restaurant will open from breakfast - to cater for hungry lawyers and management consultants disembarking at Temple Tube - through to dinner, and will host live bands on Saturday nights.

If stepping out in big hats and high heels to drink tea at a posh hotel sounds like your kind of thing, then it could be worth dropping in at The Savoy (0171 836 4343) on the Strand. For the first time since the Second World War the hotel has reintroduced tea dances on Sunday afternoons from 4.30pm; a band invites visitors to take to the floor to waltz and tango. And if that doesn't appeal, there's a huge array of scones, cakes and sandwiches to munch on while you watch everyone else.

It's good for you, but it's not boring. That's just what Sauce Barorganicdiner (0171 482 0777) promises. The restaurant which opened its doors on Camden High Street yesterday only serves food that's been certified organic by the Soil Association, although that does include juicy hamburgers and chips. And you'll be relieved to hear that the drinks list includes non- organic wines alongside a more worthy collection of beverages.
