Clubs; Club of the week: The End'sthird birthday @ the end

Three years of The End has meant three years of top-level clubbing for the capital. Since its inception Mr C and Layo have guaranteed Londoners innovative promotions. It's no coincidence that both Sasha and Fatboy Slim made this club the headquarters for their musical invasion.

Tonight the main room showcases deep-funky house with an emphasis on quality party tunes - it is a birthday celebration. Mr C, Robert Owens, Dave Angel, Darren Emerson keep the dance floor humming throughout the night while 4Hero, Grooverider and The Usual Suspects keep the beats grimy in the lounge area. The End marks its birthday with the launch of a compilation CD consisting of tracks from The End's residencies including Full Cycle, Wall Of Sound, The Usual Suspects & Tyrant.

If you've never been to The End before, tonight is a great opportunity to see the club at it best. The place will be packed so buy tickets during the day and make sure you arrive early.

VAPOUR '98 GRAND FINALE @ the event

The Vapour Tour grinds to a halt hoping to bow out disgracefully at its final gig. Any excuse for a party is fine with me. Brighton's big- beat scene is as good as anywhere in the UK and The Lo Fidelity Allstars, The Wiseguys and Skint will all be taking their turns on the Technics. Fatboy Slim will be in attendance while Legendary US DJ/producer Kurtis Mantronik (the man who immortalised the `funky drummer' sample) shows the young guns how it should be done. Excellent!

LIFTED @ the blue note

The Blue Note appears poised to kick out its regular gigs. I've no idea why but Friday's 3rd-birthday celebrations could see it regretting a hasty decision. Lifted will be signing off from the venue with the band's usual brand of everything soulful; Latin grooves, R'n'B, Rare and garage - whatever takes the mood. Dr Bob, Elliot Eastwick, Miles Holloway, Damon Halvin and Frankie Valentine are just some of the DJs who'll keep this multi-floored venue jumping.
