Stephenie Meyer has shared a mysterious countdown on her website, prompting speculation as to its possible meaning.

The Twilight author’s website currently displays a clock counting down to 4 May.

No other information is currently available as to what will happen on that date, though fans have come up with theories.

Some believe Meyer might be about to release Midnight Sun, a previously shelved companion novel to the Twilight saga.

Midnight Sun is told from the perspective of Edward Cullen, the vampire portrayed by Robert Pattinson in the film adaptations, as opposed to Bella Swan (Kristen Stewart).

A draft of the novel leaked in 2008, after which Meyer halted the project.

It remains on hold to this day.

Social media widgets on Meyer’s website link to Fickle Fish, a movie production company co-created by Meyer.

This suggests that Meyer’s new project could be film-related instead.
