Josie Long is an award-winning comedian and writer. She will perform with Robin Ince in Nine Lessons and Carols for Godless People at London’s Bloomsbury Theatre (10-22 Dec) and also on tour in Robin and Josie’s Shambles.

Sunday

Listen to Midlake’s The Trials of Van Occupanther and try to write before giving up and going for a run while listening to The Prodigy’s Experience and mouthing the words.

Monday

I finish reading CivilWarLand in Bad Decline by George Saunders and start on The Brief and Frightening Reign of Phil straight away. He is my new favourite.

Tuesday

My friend sent me the Arthur Russell album Another Thought and “A Little Lost” is pretty much the most romantic song I’ve ever heard.

Wednesday

I research different types of creative protest and find a great website: beautifultrouble.org – it has so many inspiring examples of people acting to try to change things for the better.

Thursday

I’m writing my first full-length screenplay. I watch The End of Love by Mark Webber as research.

Friday

Spend a lot of the day watching Talking Heads videos from the 1980s and wishing I could dance like David Byrne.

Saturday

Go, with a friend, to hear the LPO play Shostakovich 13 at the Royal Festival Hall. Yevtushenko’s poems about the Holocaust and Stalinism in BabiYar are devastating.
