Barfly offers a chance to catch new acts for nothing

At London's Barfly, the indie-folk duo Slow Club played an intimate show to a crowd of ticket-winning fans. Next month, Kate Nash will take to the same stage for a similar free show. This is Beck's Live, a new monthly series of intimate gigs aiming to give a platform to up-and-coming UK acts to perform alongside more established names – and the tickets are free through the Facebook page.

The support acts are not to be missed. Rising indie-psych shoegaze duo Coves supported indie-rock band Tribes at Liverpool's Evac on Wednesday. James Endeacott, who signed The Libertines and The View, took the Leamington Spa duo under his management, and they have rightly been championed by Radio 1's Zane Lowe and Huw Stephens.

When Kate Nash plays the Barfly next month, she will be supported by the Newcastle alt-rock band Let's Buy Happiness, whose haunting indie melodies have already been heard on BBC 6Music and at Glastonbury festival .
