A new cruise liner will feature a two-level race track on deck when it launches next year.

Norwegian Cruises revealed the plans for Norwegian Bliss, its new 4,000 capacity vessel, at a travel industry event in Las Vegas last week.

Passengers will be able to compete against each other in electric go-karts on a 1,000ft course, the longest race track at sea.

The cars have four speed settings, for beginner, intermediate and advanced drivers that go up to 30 miles per hour, with a “turbo boost” on each lap for thrill seekers. The vehicles run silently, so passengers can burn rubber without disturbing fellow travellers enjoying the peace at sea.

The track is the second on-board racing course by Norwegian Cruises. The company’s liner Joy launched this summer with the world’s first at sea go-kart track. The track on Bliss will be 40 per cent longer than the one on Joy.

Other features on the new 167,800 tonne ship include an open-air laser tag course with an abandoned space station theme, and a water park with two multi story slides. One slide includes two loops, one that extends out over the side of the ship and a second see-through loop that stretches down to the deck below.

A tandem slide allows passengers to race side-by-side on inner tubes for more than 360ft, with a translucent section that provides ocean views.

The ship will sail to Alaska, the Caribbean and the Mexican Riviera from June 2018. Andy Stuart, Norwegian Cruise Line president and chief executive officer said: “Norwegian Bliss will no doubt be our most incredible ship to date.

“We have elevated Norwegian Bliss’s onboard experience to new heights, bringing the best features from across our fleet plus exciting new first-at-sea activities like the largest race track and new dining concepts to create the ultimate cruising experience.”
