Flights to these five holiday destinations have dropped since last September

Summer may be over, but if you’ve got the post-holiday blues its the perfect time to book a late getaway thanks to some incredibly cheap flights.

Flight prices for September have dropped hugely thanks due to the continuing price war between low-cost airlines.

Comparison site Skyscanner has looked at all flights out of the UK and rounded up which destinations have shed the most pounds compared to September last year.

Here are the top five locations for money-saving sunseekers:

The seaside town in Portugal’s Algarve takes the number one spot, with average flight prices for the month almost a quarter (24 per cent) lower than in September 2016. Flights start from £40 return and temperatures range between 20-27 degrees throughout the month.

Mallorca’s jewel on the Mediterranean sea comes in at second place with a 21 per cent price drop compared to last year. This means you can book a round trip from as little as £33. The honey-hued city is packed with sights, from its Gothic cathedral to Moorish baths in the Arab quarter.

Another beachside favourite, the Spanish resort has seen average prices slide by 18 per cent with return flights starting at £51. When you’re tired of hanging out by the long waterfront sipping sangria (it can hit highs of 29 degrees in September) head out to discover the Castillo de Santa Bárbara, a 16th century castle with sweeping views of the city.

There has been a price drop of 17 per cent on September flights to the magical island, with return trips still available from £33. Closing parties for most of the big clubs happen at the start of the month, so you could grab tickets for a party weekend or skip the hedonism and explore the UNESCO world heritage listed old town and watch some spectacular sunsets.

The glamorous port on the Costa Del Sol rounds out the top five with average flight prices 14 per cent cheaper than the same month last year. Return flights start at £40, so you can start saving for your own super-yacht to match the shiny giants hanging out in the famous marina.
