Tyson Fury responds to WWE superstar Braun Strowman

Tyson Fury makes his wrestling debut as WWE descends on Saudi Arabia for its latest Crown Jewel event on Thursday - featuring a first ever women's match.

Fury has made headlines and raised eyebrows in recent weeks by entering into the crazed world of professional wrestling, with his boxing career still very much ongoing.

The 31-year-old has hinted his dalliance with sports entertainment may only be fleeting, but he’s certainly thrown himself into the cause, his bout with Braun Strowman set to be one of the headline matches at the blockbuster event.

Crown Jewel also makes history this week with WWE staging its first ever women's match in Saudi Arabia. The company had come under criticism for staging three previous events in the last 18 months without any female representation in the ring.

Now, though, Natalya and Lacey Evans will meet in a landmark bout, with the match confirmed as a late addition on Wednesday.

The show also features the defence of the WWE and Universal Championships, including a bout between Brock Lesnar and his former UFC foe, Cain Velasquez.

Hulk Hogan and Ric Flair are also set to feature as they manage respective teams in a giant tag team match-up.

Here is your guide to everything you need to know about WWE Crown Jewel.

When and where is WWE Crown Jewel?

Crown Jewel takes place this Thursday, 31 September 2019. The show takes place at the King Fahd International Stadium in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia.

What time does Crown Jewel start?

The show begins at 6pm UK time with the main portion of the event, but there will be a one-hour pre-show that begins at 5pm, that will include build-up, interviews and a preliminary bout, a Battle Royal to determine who will challenge AJ Styles for the United States Championship later in the night.

Where can I watch WWE Crown Jewel?

Pretty much anywhere you like, as long as you have a TV, smartphone or device or a computer.

Sky Sports are showing the event on Sky Sports Box Office. You can order and watch it live but, in addition, Crown Jewel is repeated between 6am on Friday, 1 November and 9pm on Sunday, 3 November.

Alternatively, you can subscribe to WWE’s in-house service, WWE Network, which will air it as it happens and almost immediately on demand afterwards, indefinitely.

You can view WWE Network on most smartphones and devices, including PS4, Xbox 360 or Xbox One and the vast majority of connected smart televisions. If you’re still using a PS3 please be aware that WWE have ceased to offer the platform via this medium.

How much will WWE Crown Jewel cost to watch?

That depends on which method you chose. Sky Sports Box Office are charging £14.95 for their airings, while WWE Network subscriptions are a cheaper at £9.99 per month.

Can you stream WWE Crown Jewel online for free?

Yes, and it's completely legal. but you'll need to be swift! WWE Network is actually free of charge for new subscribers.

So, if you’re a first-time subscriber, head over to wwe.com before Thursday’s show and sign up. That will give you a month’s access for free, which will include not only this show, but also any other WWE content and events for the month.

What is Tyson Fury doing at Crown Jewel?

Fury will battle WWE’s Monster Among Men, Braun Strowman. Fury’s involvement with WWE began several weeks ago at the premiere of Friday Night Smackdown on Fox, with Strowman getting in the Gypsy King’s face at ringside.

The two have traded verbal and physical jibe since then, leading to this bout between the two, which has been rumoured to have pocketed Fury more than $10 million.

You mentioned Hulk Hogan and Ric Flair?

Yes, the two legends will be in Saudi Arabia as one of the highlights of the event.

The veterans won’t be squaring off themselves, though, and instead have handpicked a team each to go at it in their respective honour at Crown Jewel.

Roman Reigns Captains Team Hogan, which includes Rusev, Ricochet, Shorty G and Ali, while Team Flair, Captained by Randy Orton, features Shinsuke Nakamura, Drew McIntyre, Bobby Lashley and King Corbin.

What is the WWE Championship match?

Lesnar is set to defend his recently-won WWE Championship against Cain Velasquez, another high-profile name who is stepping into the WWE world for the first time.

Velasquez is reported to have signed a multi-year deal with WWE after a successful UFC career, which includes a punishing defeat of Lensar around a decade ago, which left the Beast permanently scarred on the face.

Is the Universal Championship on the line?

Yes, Seth Rollins will once again put his coveted championship on the line as he meets The Fiend, Bray Wyatt.

The two squared off in a less-than-convincing match at Hell in a Cell earlier this month, with this contest set to be a Falls Count Anywhere bout.

You mentioned a women's match in Saudi Arabia?

Yes, the Natalya vs Lacey Evans is historic in that regard, being WWE's first ever women's match in the country.

WWE was forced to defend its staging of previous Crown Jewel events, plus the Greatest Royal Rumble and Super Showdown cards without any female wrestlers.

Top chief Paul 'Triple H' Levesque told The Independent last year that the company were working hard to change that landscape, saying: "WWE is at the forefront of a women’s evolution in the world and what you can’t do is effect change anywhere by staying away from it .While women are not competing in [the 2018 event], we have had discussions about that and hope that, in the next few years they will be."

Natalya added on social media after the announcement of their match: "The world will be watching. I am so incredibly proud to represent our women’s division tomorrow night at #WWECrownJewel. It’s time to bring your best, Lacey."
