Tottenham transfer news: Ryan Sessegnon deal agreed, plus Giovani Lo Celso and Philippe Coutinho latest

Spurs have finally agreed a deal with Fulham for Sessegnon which will see Josh Onomah move the other way

Tottenham Hotspur are expected to complete the £25m signing of Fulham’s Ryan Sessegnon on transfer deadline day.

Spurs have been in talks with the Championship side all summer with Sessegnon, 19, determined to complete a move to north London ahead of the start of the new season.

Daniel Levy’s reluctance to meet Fulham’s asking price has seen the deal go down to the wire, but a deal was finally struck between the two clubs on Wednesday, ahead of a Thursday announcement.

The deal will see 22-year-old Tottenham academy product Josh Onomah move in the opposite direction, although not in part-exchange for Sessegnon.

Onomah was handed his senior Tottenham debut by Mauricio Pochettino but failed to nail down a spot in the Argentine’s first-team and has since been loaned to Aston Villa and Sheffield Wednesday, before being deemed surplus to requirements this summer.

Elsewhere, Spurs have revitalised their interest in Real Betis midfielder Giovani Lo Celso after their attempts to secure a loan move for Barcelona’s Philippe Coutinho broke down.

Like Sessegnon, Spurs have been interested in Argentina international Lo Celso all summer but Betis have been holding out for a £65m fee.

Daniel Levy had been reluctant to meet that price given that Lo Celso moved from Paris Saint-Germain to Betis for £23m in April, once his option-to-buy clause was activated.

Spurs offered Betis a fee in the region of £50m plus performance-related add-ons earlier this summer, but The Independent understands the north London club have today improved this bid as they scramble to secure a third summer signing before Thursday’s transfer deadline.

The news comes after Tottenham’s audacious attempt to bring Coutinho to the club on loan broke down on Wednesday afternoon.

Spurs had hoped to take advantage of the Brazilian’s struggles at the Camp Nou by bringing him back to the Premier League on a short-term deal.

But the 27-year-old has little interest in leaving the club on loan. Barcelona would meanwhile demand close to £100m for a permanent deal – placing him way beyond Tottenham’s price range.
