Liverpool FC youngster Rafael Camacho has completed a £5m move to Sporting Clube de Portugal.

The 19-year-old, who made his first-team debut last season for Jurgen Klopp’s side last season, has returned to his boyhood club.

Camacho began his career in Sporting’s academy and was linked with a return to Portugal in January.

Liverpool held off loan interest in the winger, who provided cover at left-back for Andrew Robertson and Alberto Moreno.

But Camacho desired more first-team opportunities and proved reluctant to finalise an agreement on a new contract at Anfield.

Liverpool have included £2m-worth of add-ons in the deal with Sporting, as well as a sell-on clause and buy-back option.

Camacho’s departure leaves Klopp without natural cover for first-choice left back Robertson.

Moreno is set to leave on a free transfer at the end of this month, with a return to his native Spain likely.

James Milner, the versatile central midfielder, has previously played a left-back under Klopp, before Robertson’s arrival in 2017.

The Reds have meanwhile siogned Sepp van den Berg from PEC Zwolle and handed Abdi Sharif his first professional contract.
